Duo Kairos (New York) is a flute and piano duo formed by musician-mothers Lynn Tsai and Lauren Ninoshvili, whose paths crossed serendipitously in their musical journeys. With a special interest in exploring works of women composers, living composers, and underrepresented voices, Duo Kairos hope to create a space for discovery, connection, and reflection while celebrating the artistry of composers whose voices deserve to be heard.

Meet the Musicians:

Lauren Ninoshvili is an instrumental and vocal collaborative pianist based in Westchester County, NY and a member of the music faculty at Barnard College since 2010. She is a staff accompanist at Sarah Lawrence College, Hudson River School of Music, and Hoff-Barthelson Music School. Lauren holds a PhD in Ethnomusicology from Columbia University and a BA in Music and Russian Regional Studies. Highlights of her various and sundry musical training include classical and jazz piano studies at Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School, summers at Tanglewood Music Festival as a French hornist, and cross-enrollment at Manhattan School of Music as a college student at Barnard. She stumbled into collaborative piano playing somewhat by accident and can’t imagine going back! Lauren has also held faculty appointments in the Department of Music at New York University and the Slavic Department at Columbia University. Her scholarship, which to date has focused on music-language intersections in the Republic of Georgia and its diaspora, is published in Music and Politics, Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, Current Musicology, Yearbook for Traditional Music, MUSICultures, Popular Music and Society, Ulbandus, and in edited collections. She is currently at work on a project that explores sound design in the brilliantly quirky works of Georgian filmmaker Otar Iosseliani--specifically, his use of meticulously curated musical repertoire, obscured speech, and eccentric sound effects.

Lynn Tsai is a New York-based flutist and educator. She made her Carnegie Hall recital debut as a winner of the Artist International Competition, and was a prizewinner of multiple concerto competitions in Nevada. Lynn has performed at national and regional flute conferences. Her recent lecture-recitals explore themes of multiculturalism, highlighting her Taiwanese heritage through the music of Taiwanese composer Tyzen Hsiao. Lynn maintains a private flute studio in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. She holds a DMA, MA, and BM in Flute Performance. To learn more, please click here.
